Release the Captives from their Prison, by David Roberts
Every normal cell in our bodies is assigned purpose through genetic imprinting. Liver cells are busy being livers. Skin cells are about being skin. Nervous system cells are about being nervous systems. Cancer is a term used when cells mutate abnormally and reproduce, out of control. When cancer originates in the colon (for example), abnormal cells mutate and reproduce faster than normal colon cells, affecting negatively the original purpose of the colon’s original intention. In this condition, if unchecked, tumors form which can spread to other tissue and organs.
I’m certainly no expert on cancer but there’s one sobering reality about it, experts quickly admit there’s much we don’t know, including why it originates. We do know “cancer” is a general term, much like “fruit trees” is a generalization. There are many types of fruit… among them are apples; there are Granny Smith, Red Delicious and a host of other varieties. Each have their own growth/life cycles, depending on their root stock, soil conditions, water, climate and other factors… similarly, cancer is a term for many types of abnormal cell growth.
[The NCI (National Cancer Institute) defines cancer as: “A term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer.”]
We can all agree on at least three things concerning cancer:
- cancer is a horrible disease,
- most families have been affected,
- we all desire cures.
It appears to me that cancer cells are narcissistic, ceasing to function in their original purpose. They’re looking outside to what ‘seems right’ to save their own lives, controlling their own destinies. It sounds very familiar to a child of God who resists resting in their purpose in Him.
If God created us in His image there is perfect peace in simply being who we were created to be. There’s also power to be, because we’re operating in the authority given us. Everything we’ve added to His simplicity is cancer to our original purpose. Imagine an eagle convinced they were a chicken or a lion trying to be a squirrel… that’s where we are when we try so hard for anything other than entering His rest.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27
We see the invisible things of God by looking at creation. It’s everywhere we look, even healthy cells vs abnormal cells.
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead…” Romans 1:20
Either we rest in Him or we are building something we think God desires…. when in fact, He’s created you to be His house… we are the house of God.
More times than not, we in ministry have ran across struggling brothers and sisters, when our well intentioned deliverance programs only move them from one jail cell to another. We readily recognize they’re in prison but haven’t quite understood what freedom for them looks like, or willing to offer it. Maybe because we’ve yet to embrace God’s original intention in us. When the peace of Jerusalem is flowing through us not only did the Messiah come to us, but we appear as Messiah to the world. In this, there’s nothing to do except be present in the moment, accepting His great Love by grace that empowers us to be Him.
God really dwells in you. Maybe you’ve heard this so many times, familiarity has stolen your wonder. We all have desires in the world, and needs that sometimes aren’t seeming to be met. In these moments, where will we go? Where do you go? Do we drink from wells where we’ll certainly thirst again or allow this powerful inner dynamic to reveal a powerful new dimension in Him? Transcending time comes as we cease our efforts to be like God, accepting you already are one with Him. His Spirit in your earthen vessel isn’t a separate Spirit, leveraged against how good you’ve been or some do-it-yourself plan. His Spirit “is” your Spirit. It’s purely the grace of God that we’ve been set on this path, free to travel in any direction, yet genetically predisposed to manifest His goodness.
If we’re to believe in forgiveness, we also believe we’re included, part of the team, one with the intended purpose of the One Greater, who forgave first. This grace-bridge should never be thought of as a bridge without power to cross over and bring eternity to others. Eternity isn’t waiting to begin. It’s Eternal Life that Jesus gave us, and our neighbors receive this same gift from us, as His ambassador. Simply be present in each moment, to be who you are, His child.
