July 4, 2021 we celebrate what happened 245 years ago today; the signing of our Declaration of Independence. Our forefathers felt compelled to risk their lives and sacred honor to gain freedom and the ability to have self-determination in this land. The words of this declaration are as true today as the day it was written.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” These were radical thoughts in that day only made common by blessing of God and the tremendous success of this American Experiment over the last two and a half centuries.
“All men are created equal.” This ideal would not be more fully realized for generations and after tremendous bloodshed. All things are not perfect in our world but like our faith, we are being perfected. Our democracy of fair-minded people, founded on a belief in divine providence and a creator, can change by the consent of the governed and because of the goodness of God.
We are in a struggle right now for the heart of our people. There is a force which is not God trying to take us back, take us down, take us away from the truth found in the gospel. But all things happen in the hand of God, and I believe are happening to bring forth the remnant to lead and show a clear contrast between the ways of men and the ways of God.
Today as we celebrate Independence Day, let us give liberty to our mouths to speak the truth in love that the chains of sin might fall off. May the truth of Jesus, heard from the lips of His People, set the world free.
