GOD FILLS THE VOID by Karen A Roth
David wrote, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God.” Just as a deer craves water—we likewise, feel a void in our hearts and long to be filled with God.
God said He lined up all the abundance and blessings He has for us. He said, “Because you surrender to my love with joy and gladness of heart, you move in the realm of the whirlwind… the abundance of everything.”
God offered the blessing last year, but I felt I missed taking full advantage of the opportunity. I asked Him, “Is it too late?” God asked me a question: “Am I not the same yesterday, today and forever?” And then He added an activation: “Dig the ditches and I will fill the void!”
A DITCH is a long narrow trench that’s created to channel water. A spiritual ditch aligns us to receive God’s blessings. Digging a ditch creates a VOID or place to contain what God pours out.
The scripture reference to digging ditches is from a time when the two kings of Israel and the king of Edom went on a war campaign against Moab. They’re in the wilderness and unable to find water. The king of Israel fears God has led them there to be slaughtered by Moab because their too week to fight. The king of Judah refuses to believe God would abandon them and asks for a prophet to inquire of God.
= VALLEY OF DITCHES
“And Elisha said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ‘ditches’ For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ And this is a simple matter in the sight of the LORD: He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. And you shall attack…” ~2 KINGS 3:16-18
The prophet Elisha spoke the word of the Lord to dig DITCHES in the valley. If they obeyed, God would send water the next morning. No SIGN would be given—no evidence of any wind or rain. But, if they trusted the word of the Lord, they would also win the battle against Moab.
God gave Elisha an activation. If they dug the ditches, He would fill them. That night, the Israelites dug ditches and it happened just as Elisha spoke—after their breakfast the next morning a quick flood filled the valley.
The Moabites took their positions for a morning battle against Israel. When they saw the sun reflecting on the water in the ditches—it convinced them that Israel, Judah and Edom fought each other, and the valley reflected their blood. They raced to loot Israel. Just as prophesied, God brought Moab to the Israelites door. It’s a huge victory for Israel.
= NATURE DESPISES A VOID
“According to Aristotle, “Nature abhors a vacuum.” Or, nature despises a void. Aristotle based his conclusion on the observation that “nature requires every space to be filled with something, even if that something is colorless, odorless air.”
We all know this is true…we eliminate light, we name the space darkness. If we remove every sound—we name the void silence.
There are many circumstances that create a vacuum or void. The void is neutral. But, we’ve been given an opportunity to participate by naming what fills the void.
= JESUS CREATED A VOID
“I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” ~ JOHN 14:2b-3
Since the beginning of time, voids have been filled. In the beginning the earth was void until God filled the earth and named it. He created Adam and Eve and named them. Every void or space will be filled—why not choose something worthy.
Jesus spoke of creating a Dwelling Place for us. If He ‘prepared a place’ then He’s already ‘dug a ditch.’ We read that on the Feast of Pentecost, “suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind” passing by an Upper Room. The disciples had already “dug ditches’ in their hearts “and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” Their ‘void’ was overflowing with the presence of God.
In 2013, God spoke “pray for the Awakening of the Spiritual Tabernacle of God in the earth.” God commanded this, but “How do we dig a ditch to create a void in the Spirit? Who can dig a ditch in the sky?”
That night God turned back time to Elisha’s day, and we acted it out. We prayerfully dug ditches and named each of them. But, it’s what happened ‘suddenly’ at dawn that convinced us God left a SIGN.
= A SIGN FROM GOD
At dawn, two campsites heard what sounded like firecrackers. Those walking to the Great Hall stopped to view a large pine tree fallen over. Some looked upwards into the sky and saw a void not made by human hands.
The manager of the facility stood by the fallen tree and pondered aloud, “How did this happen? There’s no cause—no storms … not even a wind last night! Why did this tree fall over?” Her words appear to echo the prophecy given by Elisha. Strangely, the tree fell or seemed to bow towards the Great Hall that we gathered for worship.
Did God create an incident to confirm what He’s doing? Is it a SIGN that He’s already prepared a dwelling place for us—His Spiritual Tabernacle in the Earth?”
In the Book of Revelations, an angel of the Lord spoke, “Don’t so much as ‘hurt a tree’ until I’ve sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” (RV 7:3 MSG) The fallen tree appeared as a SIGN that His Dwelling Place is the Spiritual Tabernacle in the Earth—it’s sealed and already open in this new day/age.
= TRANSITIONAL MOMENTS
Only a handful of people knew something happened two thousand years ago when Jesus arrived on Earth as an infant. After His crucifixion, only a remnant saw Him as the Risen Christ. Likewise, as part of the ‘called out ones’ or remnant, we seeing God moving once again among His people. God reveals a SIGN that He’s advancing His plan for the Age.
It was a tree that fell down. The Israelites cut tree branches to make their temporary dwelling places during the Feast of Tabernacles to remind them that they were part of something bigger. It’s a form of creating a “void” or a place for God to fill. Are we seeing a transitional moment stirring as the new Age prepares for a Feast of Tabernacles?
Our obedience to ‘dig the ditches’ allowed us to participate in a transitional moment. A heart condition miraculously disappeared after digging a ditch and naming it. We anticipate many other miracles because God confirms His Word with signs and wonders.
= “THOSE WHO HAVE EARS WILL HEAR”
“Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief.” ~MARK 6:5-6
Jesus couldn’t do great works because of unbelief. The definition of unbelief is ‘indifference.’ They could not ‘hear’ Jesus because they knew His family, that he was a carpenter’s son—so they didn’t care to listen. If He were the High Priest, they would have heard Him and participated in what was happening.
Likewise, we’ll participate in the mighty works if we can ‘hear’ and recognize God in the brethren. We are joint-heirs in the Body of Christ. All those who trust Jesus operate in the miraculous.
We’ve prayed for this moment all our lives. We yearn to see the hand of God in operation and participate in the greatest move of God … to witness His Spiritual Tabernacle in the Earth manifest as the Risen Christ. We’re in relationship with God—so why wouldn’t He let us know?
The event caused many to examine the scripture and search for what God lined up for us in this Age. “Then (John) saw the doors of the Temple, the Tent of Witness in Heaven, open wide.” (Rev 15:5 MSG)
Our conclusion—God opened the front door! ______________________________________________________________________
