Breaking Free from the Power of Earth
-Body, Soul, Spirit – By David Roberts
When I was younger I learned how to train fleas.
As a young man, I’d listen to motivational speakers. One speaker was Zig Ziglar. He was a popular salesman and motivational speaker, who would often tell the story of training fleas. He was a great motivator and encourager but for my purpose, his training fleas story is a better analogy for what I’ll describe below.
To train fleas, simply follow these simple, step-by-step instructions:
- place fleas in a glass jar,
- place the lid gently on the container,
- wait a three days,
- remove lid.
Afterwards, they’ll no longer jump above the rim. The fleas are trained to live within the glass jar, with no top. It’s not because living in the glass jar was their purpose, but they’d hit their heads over and over, until they believed their entire world was confined to that tiny jar. Just three days prior, all the fleas would’ve jumped out, but hitting their heads repeatedly, they voluntarily decided to live behind invisible bars of their own making.
If those fleas live in an invisible jail (even of their own making), how do you think that would affect the way they raise their offspring? Do you think their offspring will be bound in fear or spring forth in liberty?
There’s nothing wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your thinking. Maybe you’re simply buying into bad information, an illusion that shouldn’t be able to hold you.
In the glass jar, we buy hook, line and sinker, the world’s definition of ‘success’. We pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and learn to control others, yet wonder why God isn’t speaking our language of Love. We were born in a world where we quickly begin to ‘hit our heads’. Soon after our appearance on earth, we discover patiently waiting for food doesn’t get our needs met… so we cry, causing a very nice woman to come, placing us on her warm chest, until we feel better. She holds us, then gives us milk, until we fall asleep. Some don’t have a nice woman to respond so they develop other methods of getting their needs met but it’s the same process, “we call the shots”. All through our lives, we modify and repeat, over and over; each time, we’re attempting to get better/worse results, depending on our psychological slant, or we break free and rise above. Some may never consider any option other than the merry-go-round they’re riding.
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 2Co 11:3
Through revelation we were loved first, pace and process, slivers of light break through, revealing, “I was the one who had been trained to live in the invisible jail. I was the one acting like the trained flea, trained by life’s circumstances to operate only from the familiar.” We ALL have at least this one thing in common.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Rom 5:12
In a paradox, could satan have been cast to the ground/earth (Ezekiel 28:17), so God could use dust from it, to form Adam? God created Adam in His image, forming him (Adam) dust (dust from the same earth), then breathes into his nostrils the breath of life, causing man to become a living soul (Gen 2:7)! God created man, knowing our earthen vessel had direct ties to earth. I can’t prove this but I’ve got a sneaky suspicion when God said, “let us make man in our own image”, satan was there.
God created Adam’s “jar of clay”, the body where Adam and God would live. (“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2Co 4:7). So, as his (Adam’s) descendant your “jar of clay” is “where” you live as well. Your jar of clay is not “who you are”, it’s “where you are”. In this context I can agree that no man is an island. All humans live in earthen vessels, as descendants of Adam… and we know from basic lessons on gravity, islands don’t float; their land is connected beneath, to the remainder of all earth.
You were not created as an after thought in God’s intentions! You were with God as spirit before you had form (body), and with breath we are a living soul, giving our spirit a window to interact in time. You’re free to love time by believing the illusion or Love God by believing in Him.
First, God created you (Spirit) (Gen. 1:26,27).
Then, He gave you form/dust (body) (Gen. 2:7).
Then, He breathed into his nostrils to give him a living soul (soul) (Gen. 2:7).
Embrace you are eternally present with God (Spirit), but also embrace you are having a temporary experience in your dust (body).
So, what might it look like if you break free of the power of sin and death?
It’s rather simple:
- Understand and accept you live in an earthen vessel, made of the same dust as your neighbor. You have ties to earth in common with all men.
- Understand and believe He (Christ) bought your field, you.
- Understand and accept Jesus is God, lowered in the flesh, to be seen. No man had ever seen God, until they saw Him. He came to be like you, demonstrating that your earthen vessel did not separate you from the Love of God in Christ Jesus.
- Understand and believe your Spirit is His Spirit. The only difference in you and Jesus is you have different forms (Gen 2:7).
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.” 2Co 5:16
In order to find the treasure hidden in your field (Mat. 13:44), change how you see others and yourself. Cease knowing anyone after the flesh (dust/earth), even Christ, who we once knew after the flesh to know God’s love.
No man has ever seen God until Jesus gave Him flesh! If we are born of His Spirit, we also give Him flesh… reciprocating His Love. If we imitate Him, His Love pours out of us, to those who are ignorant and out of the way, just as He did for us.
No man has ever seen God as Spirit but just as Jesus gives Him “skin” so do you. Stop trying to make your skin fit your imagination of what God is doing. We’ve all been taught not to judge a book by it’s cover. If we really accepted this we’d stop adjusting our covers to look more marketable. Our covers never separated us from God. He was always in Love with you. Simply be you. He chose you and bought you, so unless you’ve changed your mind, returning to the ways of the glass jar, present yourself a living sacrifice and be you. They will know you by your Love, not the lipstick you choose.
“Be ye therefore followers (imitators) of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.” Eph 5:1,2
As children of God, follow/imitate Him. Creating lists of attributes and tasks, then reproducing, would be ‘emulating‘, not imitating; so, instead of bouncing from one word to the next, imitate Jesus. Live, move and have your being, as God, but in your skin. Mirror God; whatever Love you’re being loved ‘by‘ God, esteem others higher than yourself, lower yourself, give away all you’ve been given. Love your neighbor ‘as‘ you are loved by God. Demonstrate God’s power by moving in Spirit, so man’s faith won’t rest on your wise and persuasive words.
